AECOM has appointed Liam Feeney as transmission and distribution lead for Europe and India, the consultancy announced on 14 October 2026, as it works on grid upgrade programmes for National Grid and EirGrid.

Feeney will lead and grow AECOM's transmission and distribution team across the region, supporting clients delivering the network upgrades and expansions needed to meet growing energy demand, the company said.

He joins from PSC, where, according to AECOM, he was general manager for power networks and HVDC (high-voltage direct current), leading teams across Europe and North America.

Eloise John, Managing Director, Energy, Europe and India at AECOM, said: "Liam joins us at an important time for the business as we continue to work with clients to modernise and expand the networks that will underpin a more sustainable, secure and resilient future."

Background

Feeney began his career at National Grid, where he helped shape the asset strategy for its HVDC interconnector portfolio, AECOM said. He later held positions at SSE, where he led the management and operation of 2GW of onshore wind across Great Britain and Ireland.

When PSC announced a new Edinburgh office, it described Feeney as General Manager – North America & Europe, Power Networks & Strategic Advisory. He said at the time that the Edinburgh presence strengthened PSC's ability to support Scotland's energy goals.

Feeney said: "I am passionate about supporting the next generation of talent and providing them with real-world experience in project delivery".

The grid programmes

AECOM said the appointment comes as it supports clients on transmission and distribution upgrades in the region, including its joint venture with Arup on National Grid's Great Grid Partnership and its place on EirGrid's Framework for Grid Development.

AECOM announced in May 2024 that its joint venture with Arup had been appointed as a design and consenting service partner for the Great Grid Partnership. AECOM said the work covers nine projects within the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, and forms part of a £9bn supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

Consents for individual schemes will be obtained through Development Consent Orders, AECOM said. The company said the programme aims to connect clean energy to homes and businesses throughout England and Wales by 2030, and will deliver five times more electricity infrastructure over the next six years than in the previous 30 years.

Ofgem said on 12 May 2026 that it had granted early funding to all 26 projects in the ASTI programme, which the regulator said was launched in 2022 to accelerate delivery of key power transmission projects.

In Ireland, EirGrid appointed AECOM in October 2025 to provide engineering design, planning and project management services on its Framework for Grid Development, reference ENQEIR885. The framework runs for five years from November 2025, with the option of a three-year extension.

AECOM said Ireland and Northern Ireland need an additional 19GW of renewable electricity to meet their net zero targets, and that the framework is intended to prepare the grid to carry 80% of both countries' electricity from renewable sources. The company has worked with EirGrid on specialist consultancy frameworks since 2013.

Leadership changes

Feeney's arrival follows a run of energy leadership moves at AECOM. In June 2026 the company appointed John to lead its energy division across Europe and India, alongside Angela Mulgrew for environment. John joined AECOM in 2015 and had led its energy business across Europe for the previous three years; at the time of the EirGrid award in October 2025 her title was Director of Energy at AECOM UK and Ireland.

AECOM said John's European energy practice spans renewables, transmission and distribution, nuclear and emerging energy technologies.

AECOM reported full-year fiscal 2025 revenue effectively unchanged at $16.1bn in results dated 18 November 2025. Operating income rose 24% to $1.0bn and net income rose 26% to $638m.
